ABSTRACT
This document describes the outcomes associated with the implementation of Ukeru restraint reduction
strategies in a residential program for individuals who have intellectual disability. During the first year
of implementation, adoption of Ukeru strategies was associated with a 31% decrease in the use of
emergency restraints. Stage-wise introduction of the Ukeru strategies allowed the conclusion that there
may be a causal linkage between the introduction of Ukeru strategies and the reduction in restraint use.
