The New Jersey Association of Community Providers (NJACP) recently recognized Deresa “Dee” Thomas, a longtime Allies direct support professional, with an honorable mention and plaque at the organization’s annual conference.
Thomas was nominated for the NJACP Leadership Award. The award is intended to “recognize exemplary employees that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their organization and those they serve,” Valerie Sellers, CEO of NJACP, said in an email.
Thomas has worked with Allies for more than 21 years. In that time, she has successfully supported the development of various supervised apartment programs. Throughout her career with Allies, Thomas has taken on many roles, but she has always maintained a strong commitment and penchant for advocacy for the people she supports.
“Dee’s passion for the people she serves and her persistence in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities has always been admired and appreciated by her peers and colleagues in the field,” Phil Monetti, COO of Allies, said. “[Dee] values the importance of person-centered care and works tirelessly to ensure those in her care are afforded opportunities to actively engage in their local communities.”
Over the course of her career with Allies, Thomas has been recognized as a natural leader, and there are plentiful anecdotes to illustrate her passion, care, and leadership qualities. Thomas maintains a direct approach to professional challenges and is always willing to lend her wisdom to younger or less-experienced colleagues.
Please join us in congratulating Thomas on being recognized for her dedication to our community and her immense leadership capabilities!
